Printing May 2026

Image
Sixteen printed in this series so far. I have been using poster printing for these works - to save on money and also I like the effect. They are completely flat and complement the look that I am chasing. I am still contemplating the AI versions with accompaning AI essay - a few have been created and they will probably printed in A4 or A3 with text. I am in no hurry and have no gallery commitements for these works. Besides, I am working on multiple fronts these days and have to pace myself to get things done properly.

Three Ready for Printing

Image
Eyes Like Jezebel  - One of three works ready for printing in the 'Twenty One ' series. I have been working on trying to get quick and rough sketches to larger formats. Leaving corrections and roughness bare on the surface. The digital colouring and texturing through multiple layers have a way of equalising the drawings into a finished work. The final printed works (to me) look great with their strong colours and textured surface. Use of fake paper textures have been used in each of these 'Twenty One' series works which translates well from the digital to the final printed work. The big job coming - down the track - is the final completion of the much bigger paintings. Which I am finding to be quite a task.

Studio April 2026

Working on 'Black and White Paper' during the period when electricity is the dearest. A little snip here and then a little snip there, slowly building a collection of little paint and collage works.

A photo of me in the studio while working on 'Courting the Young Progressives' in 2014. This work is from a ten part series, 'Apostasy'. Someone once remarked that they like the large amount of white in this painting, as it makes a less busy painting. Making an all over painting was what I was aiming for, but yes it does work well with more areas of nothing. Although, I did use areas of white in each 'Apostasy" painting, they were a lot smaller, and were meant to be flashes of white - like windows through the painting. Currently, my 'Twenty one' series works on a principle of having more white to counter the complexity of the coloured areas. Either way it's good to experiment and push painting techniques in various ways. In fact, the differences between the 'Twenty One' series and the 'Apostasy' series are quite pronounced. The temptation though is to relax into comfortable patterns of working and typical well used personal techniqu...

Art So

Image
Art So - digital image from around 2015. The image was created using an old photo from 1980, and then combined with a figure generated in Poser figure generating software. Then text and texture were added in other photo software. The image was printed and framed, then shown in a group show in Nambour's Old Ambulance Station gallery. I have always been interested in computers and creating images, video, music, and animation since buying my first computer in 1988. There are about six images in this small series.

The Many Ages of Jim

Paint and collage work on white paper. Original work is A4 size, but the digital version (shown) is available to be printed in various sizes. This work is part of an ongoing series of paint and  collage on either white paper or black paper. The series will probably amount to about 100 works when complete.
